Tilda Swinton, Daniel Kaluuya Among New York Stage Debuts in Theater Roundup

Tilda Swinton will make her New York stage debut in Manfred Karge's Man to Man at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, beginning performances February 21, 2027, with Stephen Unwin directing. Daniel Kaluuya will make his U.S. stage debut in Branden Jacobs-Jenkins' Grass at Park Avenue Armory, directed by Sarah Benson. The roundup also covers Rent's 30th anniversary concert, a cast departure from the Oh, Mary! tour, a Silver Linings Playbook musical reading and Jonathan Groff joining Cynthia Erivo's Bad Fairies.
Swinton’s Off-Broadway engagement is scheduled to start Feb. 21, 2027, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, with opening night Feb. 28 and an eight-week run. Stephen Unwin directs; Bunny Christie designs. The play, translated by Anthony Vivis and revised by Unwin, places a woman in 1930s Germany who adopts her deceased husband’s trousers and survives war, dictatorship, hunger and humiliation.
Kaluuya’s American stage bow comes in Jacobs-Jenkins’s Grass, a world premiere at Park Avenue Armory during its 20th-anniversary season. Sarah Benson directs the mother-and-son road journey through the South, which includes encounters with historical and allegorical figures. The roundup also notes Rent’s 30th-anniversary benefit, Ghee’s Oh, Mary! tour exit, a Silver Linings Playbook reading and Groff’s Bad Fairies casting.
The prominence of Swinton and Kaluuya may draw new audiences to Off-Broadway and Park Avenue Armory, potentially boosting ticket demand, press attention and donor interest. Theatergoers who rarely attend could become curious, and nearby businesses may see modest gains. The roundup’s mix of star vehicles, anniversary events and a health-related cast departure may also shape conversations about labor, illness and representation in the performing arts.
