CIB Egypt is sole Africa-Middle East entry on Fortune’s change-makers list

Commercial International Bank Egypt was named to Fortune’s 2026 Companies Changing the World list in the economic empowerment category. It was the only bank from Africa and the Middle East included this year, recognized for financial solutions and a 7 billion Egyptian pound sustainable social sukuk issuance. The bank said the listing reflects its focus on financial inclusion and support for small and medium enterprises.
CIB Egypt has been placed on Fortune’s 2026 Companies Changing the World list under economic empowerment. Among banks in Africa and the Middle East, it was the only one selected this year. The recognition highlights its financing solutions and a sustainable social sukuk valued at 7 billion Egyptian pounds.
The bank served as financial adviser on that issuance, which channels capital toward small and medium-sized enterprises and groups with limited access to financial services. CIB said the honor reflects its emphasis on financial inclusion and SME support; its chief executive noted it was the second time the bank appeared on the list.
The listing may strengthen CIB’s credibility with clients, investors, and regulators, potentially drawing more attention to financial inclusion and SME financing in Egypt. Small businesses and underserved groups could benefit if the recognition encourages similar sustainable finance tools, though the actual social effect will depend on how funds are deployed and whether access to affordable financial services expands. It may also prompt other regional banks to consider social sukuk and inclusion-focused lending.
