Set in 1977, it follows Pitt’s stunt double character as he navigates a changed Hollywood.
Netflix has issued initial stills from David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, with Brad Pitt back as the stunt performer. The sequel, scripted by Quentin Tarantino, is scheduled for a two-week global Imax engagement beginning Nov. 25 and will reach Netflix on Dec. 23.
The story takes place in 1977, eight years after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and shows Booth adjusting to a transformed film industry. The cast includes Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Peter Weller; Pitt and Ceán Chaffin are producers.
The film could draw attention back to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and to the stunt profession’s place in Hollywood lore. Fans of Pitt, Fincher and Tarantino may see the Imax window as a reason to return to theaters, while Netflix subscribers may encounter it during the holiday streaming period. Its 1977 setting may also prompt discussion about how the industry’s changing studio system affected below-the-line workers, though the film’s actual social reach will depend on reception.
