Neoenergia Posts Stronger Quarterly Earnings as Nine-Month Result Slips

Neoenergia reported third-quarter net income of 1.18 billion reais, equivalent to roughly US$234 million, a 27% increase from a year earlier. The result included a 292 million reais fair-value gain linked to a transmission transaction with Singapore's GIC, while profit for the first nine months declined 5%. Operating earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation rose 6% to 3.58 billion reais, and net debt stood at 52.2 billion reais.
Neoenergia is a Brazilian electricity group controlled by Spain’s Iberdrola. Its five power distributors serve about 17.2 million customers across Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo state, Mato Grosso do Sul and Brasília.
The third-quarter figure included a 292 million reais fair-value gain from a transmission transaction with Singapore’s GIC. Earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation totaled 3.58 billion reais, 6% higher, while net debt was 52.2 billion reais, equal to 3.44 times EBITDA.
The result may matter most to electricity customers in Neoenergia’s concession areas, because the pending Aneel review of Neoenergia Brasília could affect future tariffs, though any correction is slated for the 2027 adjustment. Investors in Brazilian utilities and Iberdrola may weigh the quarterly gain against weaker nine-month profit and higher net debt. The outcome could shape how the company funds grid investments and how regulators balance returns with affordability.
