Bitcoin Falls Under $82,000 as Tech Stock Futures and Asian Markets Weaken

Bitcoin slipped below $82,000 in Thursday Asian trading as technology shares and concerns about AI spending weighed on risk appetite. The token fell as much as 2.9%, while Nasdaq 100 futures and major Asian equity indexes also declined. Crypto futures liquidations reached $431.1 million, and altcoins including Ether and Solana also weakened.
Bitcoin’s move below $82,000 came after it briefly topped $84,000 and approached $84,800, then reversed within hours. The drop coincided with weaker Nasdaq 100 futures and steep losses in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Japan. Crypto liquidations reached $431.1 million, while derivatives volume rose to $226.6 billion and open interest slipped to $141.8 billion.
Ether and Solana also declined, though ZEC gained nearly 3% to $1,290. Traders shifted some attention toward commodities: gold open interest rose 12%, tokenized gold XAUT added 10%, silver 6.8%, and crude oil 6.29%. Bitcoin options activity reflected caution about further declines.
A sharp crypto pullback could affect retail investors, traders using leverage, and businesses holding digital assets, with liquidations amplifying short-term losses. It may also influence sentiment toward riskier technology investments, potentially cooling speculative activity. Because crypto markets trade globally, households and small firms in many economies could feel indirect effects through savings, payments, or fundraising, though the scale remains uncertain and depends on how long the weakness lasts.
