Talarico Shifts on Minors’ Gender Procedures and Backs Supreme Court Changes
Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico said he would support a national ban on transgender surgery for minors and claimed he has been consistent despite voting against a Texas bill. He also called for overhauling the Supreme Court, including term limits and possibly expanding its membership.
At a Dallas campaign food drive, Texas Democratic Senate hopeful James Talarico told Fox News he would back a nationwide prohibition on gender-related surgery for minors. He defended his record as consistent, saying his 2023 vote against Texas SB 14 reflected concerns that the measure reached beyond surgery to puberty blockers and hormones; he supported unsuccessful amendments to narrow it.
Talarico also described the U.S. Supreme Court as tainted by corruption and said he favors changes including enforceable ethics rules and tenure limits. He said he is willing to consider increasing the number of justices.
The shift may affect transgender minors and their families, who could face greater limits on care depending on federal action, and medical providers navigating conflicting state and national rules. It may also influence how Texas voters weigh consistency and LGBTQ policy. His court proposals could shape public debate over judicial independence and institutional trust, though enactment would depend on Congress and political conditions.
