Spectrum Fiber Build, Iceland-Scotland Cable and Baltic Link Lead Telecom Briefs

Charter's Spectrum brand brought gigabit fiber service to more than 2,900 additional homes and businesses in Warrick County, Indiana. Korda chose landing points in Iceland and Scotland for its planned Auður subsea cable, which is targeted for service around 2029-2030. GlobalConnect is moving forward with a roughly €40 million Baltic subsea fiber project connecting Sweden, Estonia and Finland.
Charter’s Warrick County rollout adds gigabit-capable Spectrum service around Boonville, part of a rural push backed by over $7 billion in private funding; it is separate from a Fayette County project. Korda’s Auður cable would land at Meðalland in Iceland and Irvine Bay in Scotland, with a Glasgow hub, seabed surveys in summer 2027 and service expected around 2029–2030.
GlobalConnect’s roughly €40 million Baltic route combines about 300 km of subsea fiber with 250 km of Estonian land links from Gotland toward Helsinki, supported by about €15.7 million in EU funding. SpaceX, meanwhile, reported 13.6 million Starlink subscribers and $5.25 billion quarterly revenue, up 69%, while aiming for US mobile entry by 2028.
These projects could affect different communities in distinct ways. Warrick County households and small businesses may gain more broadband choice and gigabit-capable service, while the proposed North Atlantic and Baltic cables could improve route diversity and resilience for users and firms relying on cross-border connectivity. Starlink’s subscriber growth may intensify competition in some broadband markets, though actual benefits will depend on deployment, pricing and local availability.
