KJ Apa portrays Jimmy Stewart in the film Jimmy, which opens in theaters on November 4. A special screening at Manhattan’s SAG-AFTRA Theater drew Apa, co-stars Max Casella and Jen Lilley, and director Aaron Burns, followed by a celebration at The Skylark. The movie examines Stewart’s transition from Hollywood stardom to wartime military service and his later role in It’s a Wonderful Life.
The film is set for a Nov. 4 theatrical release. A Manhattan preview at the SAG-AFTRA Theater was organized by The Cinema Society and Burns & Co. Entertainment, with KJ Apa, Max Casella, Jen Lilley and director Aaron Burns present.
The story traces Jimmy Stewart’s move from Hollywood fame to World War II military service and his later return to film, including Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life. It considers how those wartime years shaped both the man and the performer who played George Bailey.
The release may draw classic-film fans, Stewart admirers and viewers curious about how wartime service might affect creative life. It could also introduce younger audiences—especially Apa’s followers—to Stewart’s legacy and spark discussion about how biopics shape public memory of Hollywood’s past. Its cultural reach may depend on whether audiences receive it as tribute, history or star vehicle.
