Apple enters the smart display market with the HomeView

Apple has announced HomeView, its first home-assistant display, priced at £299 and set for release on 13 November 2026. The device has a seven-inch display, an aluminum body and a speaker base, with a wall-mounted version also available. It emphasizes Siri and Apple Intelligence integration along with privacy features.
Apple’s HomeView marks its debut in a product category that Amazon helped establish with Echo Show in 2017 and Google joined a year later. The £299 device is scheduled for 13 November 2026, with pre-orders open, and combines a seven-inch Liquid Retina screen, aluminium casing, adjustable stainless-steel hinge and speaker base; a wall-mounted variant is also planned.
The screen’s adaptive brightness can dim to a nightstand-friendly glow. Facial recognition can tailor content for different Apple accounts in a shared home, while a proximity sensor changes how much detail appears as someone moves closer. It also handles FaceTime, calendars, photos and smart-home controls, with Siri, Apple Intelligence and privacy features central to Apple’s pitch.
The HomeView could make always-on home assistants more normal in shared households, affecting families and guests who may encounter facial recognition and proximity sensing. It may push rival platforms to emphasise privacy and design, while Apple users with existing devices could find switching easier. Its success may depend on whether people value convenience over concerns about sensors and personal data in domestic spaces.
