Austrian hydrogen project advances as Danish electrolyser begins service

OMV has started installing electrolyser equipment for a 140 MW green hydrogen plant in Bruck an der Leitha, Austria, expected to produce up to 23,000 tonnes annually by the end of 2027. Stiesdal Hydrogen began commercial operation of a 6.5 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyser at European Energy's Esbjerg project in Denmark. PV Hardware is adding about 34,200 square feet to its Houston solar tracker factory.
OMV has received the first electrolyser components for its 140 MW Bruck an der Leitha project, beginning installation of core hydrogen equipment. The plant is planned to produce up to 23,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually when commissioned at the end of 2027. Siemens Energy supplies electrolysis technology, Strabag builds it, and funding includes €123 million from Austria and €450 million from the European Investment Bank. OMV continues without Masdar.
Stiesdal Hydrogen’s 6.5 MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser has started commercial operation at European Energy’s Esbjerg project. Its modular HydroGen design aims to lower equipment costs and simplify installation, and pressurised operation can reduce downstream compression. PV Hardware is adding about 34,200 square feet to its Houston solar tracker factory.
The Austrian project could strengthen regional clean-hydrogen supply and create construction and operations work, while industrial users may gain a lower-carbon fuel option if output meets expectations. Stiesdal’s commercial unit may give project developers more confidence in modular electrolysis, potentially affecting equipment costs and installation schedules. PV Hardware’s Houston expansion could support local manufacturing employment and shorten solar-project timelines, though actual effects depend on demand, permitting and project delivery.
