Campaign filings show Musk has put over $442 million into 2026 races

Elon Musk has now spent more than $442 million on the midterm elections, according to campaign finance filings. He added $76.8 million to America PAC in October and has directed large sums to Republican groups and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's Senate bid. Democrat James Talarico criticized the spending as an attempt to buy a Senate seat.
Musk’s latest reported outlay came in roughly a week of October, when America PAC received $76.8 million. That pushed his total for the 2026 cycle past $442 million, after $366 million earlier. Between July and September he routed $276 million to his super PAC and Republican committees, including $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund in two September transfers that were passed to a Texas pro-Paxton super PAC the following day.
He also gave $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, $20 million to a House GOP super PAC, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association. In 2024 he spent about $290 million; he later led DOGE, left in May and said he had been too involved in politics.
The scale of this spending could shape which candidates and messages reach voters in competitive races, especially the Texas Senate contest. It may intensify public debate over concentrated wealth in politics and influence how donors, parties and voters view campaign finance rules. Voters in affected states may see more advertising and organizing, while candidates opposed to such outside spending could face harder conditions to compete. The longer-term effect may depend on disclosure, turnout and how voters respond to the messaging.
