Apple Adds a $299 Shared Screen for Connected Homes
Apple introduced HomeView, a $299 tabletop or wall-mounted device with a 7-inch screen, speaker, video calling, Siri AI, and smart-home controls. Preorders started Oct. 13 in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, and the U.K., with sales beginning Nov. 13; the EU is excluded because Siri AI is unavailable there on iOS. The report says home-based offices, shops, studios, and hospitality venues could use it for hands-free schedules, messages, cameras, and connected equipment.
Apple’s HomeView is a $299 unit that can rest on a table or be attached to a wall. It packs a 7-inch screen, speaker, FaceTime calling, Siri AI, and controls for connected home equipment. Preorders began Oct. 13 in six countries, with sales starting Nov. 13; the EU is excluded because Siri AI is unavailable there on iOS.
It can identify up to six household users and present individualized information. Advanced camera functions, such as watching nine feeds at once and receiving smoke or carbon-monoxide alerts, may require Apple hardware and sometimes an iCloud+ subscription. Siri AI debuts in English in certain countries, and some capabilities remain in beta or have limits.
The device may make hands-free scheduling, messaging, and camera checks more accessible for small-business owners, especially home-based and customer-facing operations. Staff and customers could see changes in how quickly information is shared and how premises are monitored. Because advanced features depend on Apple hardware and subscriptions, benefits may skew toward businesses already inside that ecosystem, while privacy expectations around shared screens and camera feeds may need careful handling.
