Nick Reiner's Trust Fund Dispute Set for Mediation

Nick Reiner's dispute over access to his $1.7 million trust fund will go to mediation on Dec. 16. At a Los Angeles hearing, the trustee's lawyer agreed to allow small payments into his jail commissary account. Reiner is seeking to rehire attorney Alan Jackson while facing charges in the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner.
The trust conflict centers on a $1.7 million fund. Nick Reiner, 32, says half was due when he turned 30 in September 2023, with the rest at 35. Trustee Jodi Montgomery has kept the money in place while California’s Slayer Statute question remains unresolved; she says the siblings would inherit if it applies, though neither has asked for it.
At a Los Angeles hearing, Montgomery’s attorney sought permission for small commissary deposits, capped at $300, and the judge said he might rule that day or leave it to mediation. Talks are scheduled for Dec. 16 before retired Judge Mitchell L. Beckloff, and any deal needs Judge Ruben Garcia’s approval.
The case may draw wider attention to how trusts are handled when a beneficiary faces homicide charges, potentially affecting relatives, trustees, and estate lawyers who confront similar conflicts. It could also influence public expectations about access to family money during pretrial detention, though the mediation’s private nature may limit broader legal precedent. For audiences, the celebrity-linked proceedings may reinforce scrutiny of wealth, grief, and accountability in high-profile family tragedies.
