Red Clay Strays and Zach Top Honor John Anderson in Nashville

The Red Clay Strays brought Zach Top onstage in Nashville for a cover of John Anderson's 'Swingin'. Opening act Sierra Ferrell also performed Anderson's 'Years'. The tribute followed Anderson's death on Oct. 21 at age 71.
At the Red Clay Strays’ Oct. 22 Bridgestone Arena concert in Nashville, Zach Top joined the band for John Anderson’s “Swingin’,” the 1983 CMA Single of the Year. Brandon Coleman and Top shared the lead vocal.
Earlier, Sierra Ferrell, the show’s opener, sang Anderson’s “Years.” She has often included it in her sets and recorded it for a 2022 tribute album, Something Borrowed, Something New: A Tribute to John Anderson. Anderson died Oct. 21 at 71.
For country fans and listeners who grew up with Anderson’s hits, the Nashville tribute may serve as a shared moment of remembrance and could introduce his catalog to younger audiences attending Red Clay Strays and Zach Top shows. Such performances can help shape how an artist’s legacy circulates after death, though their broader cultural reach likely depends on how widely the clips and coverage travel online.
