Fidelity Flags Income Securities as Possible New Bitcoin Demand Channel
Fidelity Digital Assets says the roughly $150 trillion fixed-income market could bring additional demand to Bitcoin through dividend-paying preferred stock used by corporate treasuries. It estimates the Bitcoin-focused preferred-stock segment at about $12 billion and says such financing had supported purchases of 135,979 BTC by October 5. Strive's $630 million offering of SATS preferred shares illustrates how this funding model can work.
Fidelity’s Oct. 20 analysis, written by Zack Wainwright, describes dividend-paying preferred equity without a maturity date as a way to draw income-focused investors into corporate Bitcoin treasury strategies. Fidelity values the Bitcoin-linked preferred segment at about $12 billion inside a roughly $150 trillion fixed-income market.
By Oct. 5, such financing had supported 135,979 BTC purchases, with more than 95,000 bought between March and May, according to the analysis. It also estimates nearly 96% of Bitcoin’s maximum supply is already issued and the next halving is less than two years away.
The spread of dividend-funded Bitcoin treasuries could affect income-focused investors, corporate shareholders, and employees of firms that adopt such structures. It may broaden Bitcoin exposure beyond direct buyers, while tying preferred dividends and balance-sheet stability to a volatile asset. If more companies use these instruments, capital allocation and risk disclosure could draw greater scrutiny, though the segment remains small relative to fixed income.
