Dutch Design Week 2026 puts raw, unfinished design on display in Eindhoven

Dutch Design Week is running in Eindhoven through 25 October 2026, with its 26th edition built around the theme RAW: Rebel Authentic Worth. The programme highlights experimental and unfinished design, including Maison the Faux and Boris Acket’s water-filled installation, Design Academy Eindhoven’s graduate show, and work by Piet Hein Eek. The event also includes the Dutch Design Awards and the Show Not Show presentation.
Eindhoven, often called the City of Light because of its Philips lamp-making past, hosts the 26th Dutch Design Week through 25 October 2026. Director Willem van Zeeland describes RAW—Rebel Authentic Worth—as a theme observed in current practice rather than imposed on it.
Among displays, Maison the Faux and Boris Acket’s water-filled “Everything Moist Seems Alive” draws on hydrofeminism and live performance. Design Academy Eindhoven’s graduate exhibition spans furniture and materials, while Piet Hein Eek’s multi-use complex—restaurants, shop, showroom and hotel—reuses salvaged industrial elements.
The event may influence how designers, students, manufacturers and local audiences think about unfinished or experimental work. By foregrounding process and reused materials, it could encourage more sustainable approaches and make design careers visible to young visitors. Eindhoven’s businesses and cultural institutions may benefit from increased foot traffic, while the emphasis on raw presentation could challenge expectations that public exhibitions must be polished.
