Qatar’s Barzan showcases drones and unmanned boats at Doha expo

Qatar’s state-owned Barzan Holdings presented more than a dozen defense platforms at the Milipol 2026 exhibition in Doha. The products included small first-person-view drones, vertical takeoff surveillance aircraft, unmanned surface vessels and secure communications software. Barzan described the display as part of Qatar’s push to strengthen its domestic defense and security capabilities.
Barzan Holdings, owned by the Qatari state, used the Doha Milipol 2026 show to present over twelve systems, including small FPV quadcopters with payloads from 1.5 to 4 kg and ranges up to 20 km, plus VTOL surveillance craft and a quiet ISR quadcopter. It also showed the Rasid unmanned jet-ski-type vessel and a coast guard boat that can be crewed or operated remotely.
The company further introduced secure VPN and chat software and announced a joint venture with Ukraine’s Carmine Sky to build a layered air-defense package blending radar, radio-frequency sensing, electronic warfare and hard-kill effectors. Barzan framed the display as part of Qatar’s Made in Qatar effort amid regional security pressures.
The display could affect regional defense markets and Qatar’s domestic industry by signaling more local options for surveillance, maritime security and air-defense collaboration. Gulf governments and security agencies may see expanded procurement choices, while residents and critical-infrastructure operators could benefit from stronger monitoring and response capabilities—though greater reliance on unmanned and electronic systems may also raise privacy, oversight and escalation concerns that policymakers would need to weigh.
