Cysic Offers Reward as Exploit Funds Reach Tornado Cash
A wallet tied to the Cysic bridge attack moved roughly $744,000 in Ether and BNB into Tornado Cash after the Cysic Foundation announced a 10% return offer. The attacker had minted 10 million CYS on BNB Smart Chain; Cysic paused the bridge and froze about 2.8 million of those tokens. The foundation sought 275.872 ETH, about $665,000, while saying the mainnet and user-held assets were not affected.
Blockchain security tracker PeckShield reported that 300 ETH and 30.4 BNB left an address connected to the Cysic bridge incident for Tornado Cash. The mixer pools deposits, reducing transaction traceability. The breach involved minting 10 million CYS on BNB Smart Chain through a bridge flaw.
Cysic halted the bridge and blocked the receiving address, securing about 2.8 million of the new tokens. The foundation later sought 275.872 ETH, roughly $665,000 and about nine-tenths of the Ether proceeds traced to the incident, while saying its core network and customer wallets remained outside the incident. As of reporting, the attacker’s Ethereum wallet held about $45 in ETH, per Arkham data.
The episode may heighten scrutiny of cross-chain bridges and privacy mixers, affecting developers, exchanges, and users who rely on bridge services. Cysic users could face temporary disruption and confidence costs, while the bounty may encourage some exploiters to return funds. Because the moved sum is relatively small, broader market effects may be limited, but the case could reinforce compliance pressure on mixers and token issuers.
