San Dieguito school board hopeful faces questions over undisclosed far-right activism

Summer Boger is running for the San Dieguito Union High School District board in Area 3, which includes Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff-by-the-Sea and part of Rancho Santa Fe. Her campaign website presents her as an educator and parent focused on academic achievement, budget accountability and career readiness, but does not mention her history of far-right activism or anti-vaccine conspiracy claims. Boger declined a KPBS interview beyond her special education work and said a school board does not set vaccine or abortion policy.
Boger is seeking the Area 3 seat covering Del Mar, Solana Beach, Cardiff-by-the-Sea and part of Rancho Santa Fe. Her site describes her as a mother, educator and health practitioner, and as a special education instructional assistant; it emphasizes classroom performance, spending oversight, and preparation for college or jobs, while omitting her political activism.
Encinitas attorney Eleanor Musick detailed Boger’s far-right history in a Sept. 30 Substack post, which circulated in parent chats. A Getty photo showed Boger in Washington on Jan. 21, 2025, wearing a Trump hat and holding a Jan. 6 clemency sign. The race is nonpartisan; Republicans endorsed Boger and Democrats backed Helen Doyle.
The episode may affect how district voters, especially parents, evaluate nonpartisan school board candidates and whether they trust campaign presentations. Because school boards shape local education governance, questions about undisclosed activism could deepen polarization or prompt closer scrutiny of candidate backgrounds. Similar transparency disputes may resonate beyond this race, though the immediate impact is likely local and tied to how voters weigh candidates’ broader views against school-specific priorities.
