Coolpad’s Wide-Screen Budget Phone Debuts in China, India Launch Unclear

Coolpad has launched the Cool X Wide, a budget handset with a 6.38-inch wide display, a 4,600mAh battery, and up to 12GB RAM. It starts at 999 yuan in China, about Rs 14,000–14,500 before Indian taxes, and is available for pre-order there. No India launch date or local price has been confirmed.
Coolpad’s new handset is positioned as a budget device with an unusually wide 6.38-inch LCD, listed at a 16:10 aspect ratio and 90Hz refresh rate. The 5G variant is said to use a MediaTek Helio G99 chip, with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the 4G model carries a 50MP rear camera and 18W charging for its 4,600mAh battery.
The phone is already on pre-order in China at 999 yuan. Coolpad once had a presence in India but lost most of its share as Xiaomi and Samsung intensified budget competition. Reports suggest a possible Q1 2027 launch, though no India date or price is confirmed.
A lower-cost wide-screen phone could appeal to budget buyers who watch video, read, or multitask on their phones, and may give Coolpad a way to re-enter price-sensitive markets. If it reaches India, consumers comparing entry-level Android devices could gain another option, while retailers and rival budget brands may face added competition. Its actual effect may depend on final local pricing, availability, and whether the wide format proves useful rather than awkward for everyday use.
