US spot Bitcoin funds see $635M pulled in biggest daily exit since June

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $635.49 million in net withdrawals on Thursday, October 22, marking their largest one-day outflow since June 25. BlackRock’s IBIT and Fidelity’s FBTC accounted for roughly 74% of the redemptions, while Morgan Stanley’s MSBT was the only fund with positive flows. The withdrawals erased much of the prior three sessions’ inflows and pushed the monthly net balance back into negative territory, even though the week remained positive overall.
On Thursday, Oct. 22, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $635.49 million in net redemptions, the heaviest single-session total since June 25. BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $254.05 million of the withdrawals and Fidelity’s FBTC for $217.46 million, together about 74%. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT was the only fund to gain money, with $2.33 million.
Those redemptions erased almost 60% of the $1.08 billion added across the preceding three sessions. The week still showed $442.67 million in net inflows, while the month moved to a $174.50 million deficit. Volume was $2.56 billion, and net assets dropped nearly $5 billion to $104.71 billion as Bitcoin fell under $81,000.
The scale and speed of these ETF withdrawals could affect ordinary investors who hold crypto exposure through retirement or brokerage accounts, as fund flows may amplify Bitcoin’s price swings and alter portfolio values. Financial advisers and asset managers may need to explain volatility more carefully, while crypto firms could face shifting demand. Because ETFs are a mainstream access route, such episodes may shape public perceptions of digital assets as a riskier allocation, though the weekly positive balance suggests sentiment can reverse quickly.
