Next Trilateral Meeting May Convene in Abu Dhabi or Switzerland

A US official told Sky News that the next round of three-way talks among American, Ukrainian, and Russian delegations could be held in Abu Dhabi or Switzerland within weeks. The working-level meetings are meant to lay groundwork for a possible leaders’ summit, but the official said much preparation is still needed.
A US official, speaking anonymously to Sky News, said the next three-way working-level session involving American, Ukrainian and Russian delegations may occur in Abu Dhabi or Switzerland in roughly two weeks. The talks are intended to prepare for a possible leaders’ summit, though the official cautioned that substantial technical groundwork is still required.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already named Abu Dhabi as a leading candidate for trilateral consultations in early or mid-November. In an Oct. 23 address to Washington’s Hudson Institute, he argued that any settlement would need enforceable security guarantees, international defense commitments and at least ten years of funding for a large standing army.
If the working-level talks gain traction, they could shift expectations around security guarantees and long-term defense funding, affecting Ukrainian civilians, displaced families, soldiers, and donor governments weighing sustained aid. European publics and energy markets may also react to signals about the conflict’s trajectory. Because the meeting is preparatory, immediate societal effects are likely limited; delay or deadlock could instead prolong uncertainty for communities exposed to the war.
