Bitcoin prediction contracts push Kalshi and Polymarket to weekly high

Kalshi and Polymarket recorded $2.7 billion in weekly volume from crypto prediction contracts, with Kalshi's Bitcoin products alone exceeding $2 billion. Fifteen-minute BTC wagers drove much of the activity, making crypto the second-busiest category after sports. The figure reflects contract turnover, not necessarily new deposits.
The mid-October record combined all contracts traded on Kalshi and Polymarket, counting a position each time it changed hands. Bitcoin markets on Kalshi alone surpassed $2 billion, over 74% of the two platforms’ crypto total. Polymarket’s U.S. arm reportedly generated $92–101 million from 15-minute BTC contracts in its first full week.
These contracts typically trade between $0 and $1 and pay $1 if the chosen outcome occurs. The 15-minute format asks only whether BTC will be above or below its current level shortly ahead, resembling a very short-lived derivative. Crypto ranked second by activity on both platforms, behind sports.
The record may deepen mainstream familiarity with short-term crypto wagering, drawing retail traders who could mistake rapid contract turnover for reliable market insight. Platforms may benefit from higher engagement and fees, while inexperienced users could face losses from Bitcoin’s volatility and frequent decisions. Because these products resemble betting more than long-term investing, their growth could prompt wider discussion about consumer safeguards, financial literacy, and how much speculative activity is acceptable in accessible trading venues.
