Apple's costly foldable iPhone Duo finds strong demand

Apple's first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, is priced from Rs 2,99,900 to Rs 4,50,000 in India and starts at $1,999 globally. Despite being the most expensive iPhone, it has become one of the most in-demand models in the lineup.
Apple introduced the iPhone Duo at its September event as its first foldable handset. The device pairs a 5.4-inch cover screen with a 7.6-inch inner display and uses a titanium frame, features that likely required substantial design and software work.
In India, pricing runs from Rs 2,99,900 to Rs 4,50,000, while global pricing begins at $1,999. Early stock reportedly disappeared within minutes, including on Blinkit, and buyers can also check Apple’s India online store and retail locations in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi.
The iPhone Duo’s reception could shape how premium technology is perceived in India, where its price exceeds many annual incomes. Affluent early adopters may treat it as a status and productivity device, while retailers and resellers may benefit from scarcity-driven demand. For broader consumers, such launches may normalize ever-higher flagship pricing, though they may also intensify scrutiny of whether foldable durability and utility justify the cost. The effect may remain limited to wealthy buyers rather than reshaping mass smartphone adoption.
