Ukraine Reports Starlink Speeds Restored After Service Disruption

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said access to SpaceX's Starlink and Starshield links has returned to earlier speeds after more than a week of restrictions that hampered military operations. He said service improved overnight and was adequate by Saturday morning, helping front-line logistics and defenses against Russian drones. The change came as Washington renewed diplomatic efforts to end the war, with Russia agreeing to new three-way talks and Kyiv and Moscow accepting a local ceasefire near Oleshky.
The restored links are central to Ukraine’s battlefield communications: Starshield supports drone missions and military communications, and commanders had reported lost drones and disrupted operations during the restrictions. Kyiv’s defense minister linked the improvement to direct talks with Washington and Zelenskyy’s diplomacy.
The service change coincided with renewed diplomacy: Russia consented to trilateral talks scheduled for next month, and Kyiv and Moscow accepted a localized truce around Oleshky. Separately, attacks continued, including a deadly missile strike in Lozova and Ukrainian operations against Russian industrial sites and a logistics hub.
The restoration could ease pressure on front-line units and civilians who depend on stable communications for warnings, supplies, and drone defense. Continued uncertainty over service restrictions may leave communities and military planners wary of relying on a single system. Renewed talks and a local ceasefire may offer limited relief, but ongoing strikes suggest daily security and infrastructure risks could persist for residents in affected regions.
