Axon unveils AI-focused Body 5 camera with longer battery life

Axon introduced Body 5 and Body 5 Pro body-worn cameras, emphasizing greater on-device AI processing and improved battery performance. The Pro model adds a near-focus lens, front speakers, and extra memory. Axon also previewed Guardian AI features that can flag possible conflicts and alert officers when a stopped vehicle door opens, with availability dates still to come.
Axon’s new lineup pairs the standard Body 5 with a Pro variant. The company says the cameras offer 25 times the AI processing capability of older Axon body-worn models and 20% longer battery life than the prior generation. The Pro version adds a close-focus lens for documents, forward-facing speakers and more memory.
Axon also previewed Guardian AI. When a Body 4 or Body 5 camera is recording, the system can flag possible conflicts and send an alert to Axon Fusus, where a person reviews the live feed before deciding whether more support is needed. Guardian can also notify officers if a stopped vehicle’s door opens. Launch timing and feature sets will vary.
The shift toward on-device AI and live alerting could affect officers, people stopped or recorded, and agencies procuring cameras. Faster document scanning and hands-free information may reduce some manual steps, while conflict alerts routed through human review may shape how backup decisions are made. Because availability and configurations remain unclear, the practical effects on privacy, accountability, and agency budgets may depend on deployment policies and oversight.
