Jay-Z Kicks Off SoFi Stadium Shows With Family and Friends

Jay-Z opened the first of two SoFi Stadium concerts on Friday, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. His set featured a backing band, hits such as Empire State of Mind, and guests including Blue Ivy Carter, Scarface, John Legend and DJ Khaled.
The Los Angeles date was the first of two SoFi Stadium performances and marked a rare full solo show in the city for Jay-Z, whose last local solo outing was in 2017. The concert framed two album milestones: three decades of Reasonable Doubt and a quarter-century of The Blueprint.
Backed by a live band, he performed for about two hours, opening with “Hovi Baby” after a Yankee Stadium video featuring Beyoncé. Blue Ivy Carter played keys on two songs, Scarface appeared for two, and DJ Khaled and John Legend joined the finale. He did not mention Super Bowl halftime reports.
The shows could reinforce Jay-Z’s cross-generational appeal, drawing hip-hop fans, families, and casual listeners who know his catalog. A family-friendly guest moment may soften his image and broaden interest beyond core audiences. Because he stayed silent on the Super Bowl speculation, the concerts may keep attention on live performance rather than NFL entertainment news. Local venues, promoters, and L.A. music fans may benefit from the added cultural spotlight, though the effect is likely temporary.
