SpaceX marks 100th Falcon launch of 2026 with Starlink mission
SpaceX launched 27 Starlink satellites on a Falcon 9 from California, achieving the 100th Falcon family mission of the year. The first stage landed on a droneship after liftoff. The Starlink constellation now exceeds 11,000 operational satellites.
The booster designated B1100 completed its ninth flight, touching down on the droneship "Of Course I Still Love You" in the Pacific Ocean roughly 8.5 minutes after liftoff. The 27 satellites deployed from the upper stage about 62 minutes into the mission, adding to a constellation that now exceeds 11,000 operational spacecraft.
The 2026 cadence trails the company's single-year record of 165 Falcon launches set in 2025. Starlink missions dominate the manifest, accounting for 76 of the 99 Falcon 9 flights so far this year. SpaceX's longer-term ambitions involve Starship carrying next-generation Starlink V3 satellites, with plans for a constellation of 100,000 spacecraft and orbital data centers.
The rapid expansion of the Starlink constellation could reshape global internet access, particularly for underserved and remote regions where traditional infrastructure is limited. However, the growing number of satellites may also intensify concerns about orbital congestion, collision risks, and light pollution affecting astronomical observation.
