Spirit Media Sets September Theatrical Release for 'Last Man in Tower' Adaptation

The film adaptation of Aravind Adiga's novel, directed by Ben Rekhi, will hit Indian theaters in September. It marks the first on-screen collaboration between Manoj Bajpayee and Boman Irani, with Divya Dutta and Sukant Goel also starring. The teaser has been released by producer Rana Daggubati's Spirit Media.
The adaptation brings Adiga's acclaimed novel to the big screen with a notable creative team. Screenwriter Sooni Taraporevala, known for her work on several celebrated Indian films, handles the screenplay, while Juhi Chaturvedi contributes Hindi-language dialogue. The project marks a significant pairing, as Bajpayee and Irani have never appeared together in a film prior to this production.
Spirit Media, the production company led by actor-producer Rana Daggubati, is backing the theatrical release. The September rollout follows the recent unveiling of the film's first teaser, generating early buzz for the literary adaptation. Adiga's source material follows a Mumbai housing society facing upheaval, adding to the film's anticipated dramatic weight.
This adaptation could draw significant attention to Indian literary cinema, particularly given Adiga's Booker Prize pedigree from "The White Tiger." The pairing of Bajpayee and Irani may attract audiences across generations of Indian filmgoers, potentially boosting theatrical attendance during a competitive release window. The film could also reinforce the viability of book-to-screen adaptations in Indian markets, influencing future production decisions by studios seeking prestige projects with established source material.
