Xbox Series X X25 Anniversary Console Preorders Launch, Limited to 25,000 Units
Microsoft is releasing a limited edition translucent green Xbox Series X to celebrate the console's 25th anniversary, priced at $899.99. Only 25,000 units will be made, each individually numbered, and the bundle includes a matching controller and a digital copy of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Preorders go live today at 7am PT / 10am ET at major retailers.
The X25 console marks a significant milestone for Microsoft, arriving 25 years after the original Xbox launched on November 15, 2001. Each of the 25,000 units carries a unique engraved number, and the translucent green shell deliberately echoes the iconic aesthetic of the first-generation hardware. The included controller similarly pays tribute to the original Duke design through its styling details.
Beyond the hardware itself, the bundle's inclusion of Halo: Campaign Evolved ties directly into Xbox's most storied franchise, offering a full remake of the original campaign with additional new levels. The separate X25 controller is also available for preorder and reportedly selling quickly. This release arrives amid Microsoft's broader push toward digital distribution, including a program converting physical games into digital copies.
This limited release could intensify the collector's market for gaming hardware, potentially driving resale prices well above the $899.99 retail cost. Casual fans may find themselves competing with scalpers for the 25,000 available units, while the numbered exclusivity could make this a status symbol within gaming communities. The strategic timing may also help Microsoft maintain momentum against PlayStation's recent missteps, though its long-term competitive position remains uncertain.
