Stephen Curry's 4,000th Three-Pointer Documentary Gets Imax Release Date

The ESPN Films documentary 'Portrait of an Artist: Stephen Curry' will open exclusively on Imax screens starting Oct. 9. Directed by Gotham Chopra, the film captures Curry's record-breaking 4,000th three-pointer and includes commentary from artists like Viola Davis and Rick Rubin. Disney is distributing the film, which was produced by IMAX, Religion of Sports, Unanimous Media, and NBA Entertainment.
The documentary centers on a single game against the Sacramento Kings, where Curry needed just two three-pointers to reach the 4,000 milestone. Twenty-one Imax proprietary cameras were positioned throughout Chase Center to capture the event in real time, offering a unique perspective on the game.
Beyond the basketball action, the film incorporates reflections from artists including Viola Davis, Rick Rubin, Patti Smith, and Jon Batiste, framing Curry's shooting as a form of creative expression. The production is a collaboration between Imax, Religion of Sports, Unanimous Media, and NBA Entertainment, with Disney handling distribution. Chopra co-founded Religion of Sports alongside Tom Brady and Michael Strahan.
The documentary may appeal to both sports fans and general audiences interested in the creative process, potentially expanding the reach of sports documentaries beyond traditional demographics
