JetBlue Bets on Premium Cabin to Reverse Six-Year Loss Run

JetBlue introduced its BlueFirst domestic first-class product on Tuesday, featuring memory-foam seats, extra legroom, and enhanced amenities like blankets and expedited security. The airline plans to equip its A220, A320, and A321 fleets with 12 to 16 of these seats, with bookings opening this fall. The move is part of JetBlue's strategy to boost revenue and achieve profitability after six consecutive years of losses.
The BlueFirst cabin represents JetBlue's most significant product overhaul in years, with the carrier retrofitting its narrow-body fleet to include the premium seating. The airline has configured the cabins so that A220 and A320 aircraft will carry 12 of the new seats, while the larger A321 will accommodate 16. Each seat includes a 13.3-inch entertainment screen and dedicated overhead storage.
JetBlue is positioning the product as a full-service experience, bundling priority check-in, expedited security lanes at more than 30 airports, and onboard amenities such as blankets and amenity kits. The rollout begins with bookings this fall and the first equipped aircraft entering service later in 2026. The move comes as the airline seeks to end a six-year streak of annual losses.
