Alanis Morissette Files Suit Accusing Ex-Tour Manager of Blackmail
Alanis Morissette has sued her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, alleging civil extortion and fraud over threats to falsely implicate the singer in drug possession. The lawsuit claims Urinov was detained at a UK airport with drugs and later demanded Morissette take responsibility or face litigation. Morissette says she is the victim of a calculated blackmail campaign.
The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles federal court, centers on incidents that allegedly occurred in 2025 while Morissette's team traveled to Spain for a concert. Urinov was reportedly stopped at a U.K. airport, where authorities issued a seizure notice for marijuana and xylazine found in her bag. Urinov allegedly claimed the items were hers and presented an Israeli medical marijuana license before being released.
According to the complaint, Urinov later shifted tactics after the tour concluded, sending letters through her lawyer that demanded Morissette either admit the drugs were hers or face litigation. The alleged demands escalated to include a 15-year employment contract with raises and bonuses, plus immigration attorney fees. Morissette states she filed preemptively to counter what she calls "patently frivolous" threats against her character.
This case could highlight vulnerabilities in the power dynamics between celebrities and their touring staff, where personal knowledge and proximity create leverage. It may prompt artists to review contractual safeguards and background-check procedures for crew members.
