Tecno's Bezelless concept phone achieves zero bezel display
Tecno showcased a prototype smartphone at IFA 2026 that completely eliminates the bezel around its 6.78-inch OLED screen, leaving only a thin frame. The device, called Bezelless, is not intended for sale but demonstrates the feasibility of edge-to-edge displays. It features a 144Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution.
Tecno's prototype relies on a complex dual-glass construction to achieve its seamless look. The top glass layer terminates at the frame, while a lower glass layer and the OLED panel extend beneath it, requiring the phone to be assembled from the rear. This unusual process necessitates a custom adhesive to secure the screen from the front, a significant departure from standard manufacturing.
The concept arrives after years of industry stagnation, where bezels plateaued at roughly one millimeter. While the frame on the Bezelless is marginally thicker than some rivals, the achievement is primarily a proof-of-concept. Tecno has not indicated any plans to commercialize the technology, leaving its potential for future production models uncertain.
This concept could reset consumer expectations for smartphone design, potentially pressuring major manufacturers to revisit their own display engineering. If the technique proves durable and cost-effective, it may accelerate the adoption of edge-to-edge screens across mid-range devices, where Tecno competes. However, the marginal visual gain suggests the impact may be limited, as most users already perceive current bezels as negligible. The broader significance may lie in demonstrating continued innovation in a mature market.
