Huawei's Mate XT 2 adopts inward-folding design and privacy screen
Huawei's third trifold phone, the Mate XT 2, features an inward-folding design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold. It also includes an optional privacy OLED display that narrows viewing angles. The phone runs on Huawei's new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.
The Mate XT 2 abandons the earlier hinge mechanism that left the flexible panel exposed, instead folding both halves of its 10.2-inch display inward for better protection. Its optional privacy screen, a paid upgrade, dims the view from side angles while keeping the front clear.
Under the hood, the device packs a Kirin 9050 Pro processor, an IP59 water-resistance rating, and a triple-lens camera. Priced at roughly $3,000 in China, it arrives as Samsung's rival trifold has been discontinued, though leaks hint at a future model. Global launch details are still pending.
This release could intensify competition in the premium foldable market, potentially pushing other manufacturers to adopt inward-folding designs and privacy screens as standard features. For consumers, the optional privacy display may address growing concerns about screen-peeping in public spaces, though the high price tag could limit adoption to affluent early adopters.
