Flyadeal to Introduce Connecting Flights and Premium Seats as It Expands

Flyadeal, the low-cost subsidiary of Saudi carrier Saudia, will soon add connecting flights with origin-and-destination fares to its current point-to-point model, according to acting CEO Sanjiv Kapoor. The airline is also preparing for deliveries of Airbus A321neos in late 2027 and A330neo widebodies in the fourth quarter of that year, supporting its long-haul ambitions. These moves align with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 strategy to grow aviation and tourism.
Flyadeal is shifting from its traditional point-to-point operations to a network that includes connecting itineraries with bundled origin-and-destination pricing. This strategic pivot is supported by an upcoming fleet upgrade, with A321neo deliveries slated for late 2027 and A330neo widebodies arriving in the fourth quarter of that year.
The carrier's expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which prioritizes aviation and tourism growth. However, the broader industry faces significant headwinds from aircraft delivery delays, which have already hampered expansion plans for other carriers like Air India and Riyadh Air, making Flyadeal's timeline noteworthy.
The move could reshape regional air travel by offering budget-conscious travelers a new option for long-haul journeys, potentially increasing competition with Saudia and other Gulf carriers. This expansion may also influence tourism flows into Saudi Arabia, aligning with national growth targets. However, the added complexity of connecting flights and premium seating could alter Flyadeal's cost structure, possibly leading to higher base fares or operational challenges. The airline's ability to execute this transition may ultimately determine its competitive standing.
