Iberseries Forum Names First Selection Committee for Co-Production Projects
For the first time in its five-year history, the Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production and Financing Forum has established a selection committee. The trio of Bernardo Bergeret, Joanna Lombardi, and Karina Dolgiej will evaluate projects based on viability, international appeal, and financing strength. They have shortlisted 40 projects for the upcoming event in Madrid.
The forum is scheduled for Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Madrid, with dedicated one-on-one sessions for feature films on the first day and television series on the second. The newly formed trio brings distinct expertise, combining festival leadership, showrunning, and international distribution.
Coordinator Rodrigo Ros noted that the selected 40 projects had to demonstrate at least 30% secured financing and strong co-production potential. The committee prioritized projects with clear international appeal and experienced teams, marking a significant structural shift for the event's fifth edition.
The establishment of a formal selection committee could signal a maturing of the Ibero-American co-production landscape, potentially offering clearer pathways for emerging filmmakers to secure international financing. By standardizing evaluation criteria, the forum may enhance the credibility of selected projects, which could translate into more robust cross-border partnerships and a wider variety of culturally distinct films and series reaching global streaming platforms and theaters. This shift may ultimately benefit audiences seeking diverse narratives, while providing producers with a more predictable route to market.
