Netflix Expands South African Programming with New Comedy, Reality Series, and Sequels
Netflix announced a fresh lineup of South African titles, including the comedy 'How to Ruin Diwali: Meet the Parents' from Burnt Onion Productions and producer Jayan Moodley, set for an Oct. 30 launch. The streamer also revealed that Dineo and Zothile Langa will host 'Love Is Blind: South Africa,' and a wedding docu-soap 'Stars & Vows: Anele and Buzza' is in the works. Returning seasons and sequels, such as 'Blood Legacy' season 2 and 'Seriously Single Too,' were also confirmed for later in 2026.
Netflix's upcoming slate includes a comedy about an interracial couple from Burnt Onion Productions and Jayan Moodley, launching Oct. 30. Reality offerings feature Dineo and Zothile Langa hosting 'Love Is Blind: South Africa' from afrOkaans, plus a wedding docu-soap from Dopezuluboi and an undisclosed dating show from BrightFire.
Returning titles include 'Blood Legacy' season 2 on Sept. 25, 'Seriously Single Too', 'Another Disaster Holiday', 'Tuiskoms', 'Marked', and 'Meet the Khumalos 2'. Over a decade, Netflix has filmed across 20 cities in eight provinces, backed over 8,000 jobs via 30+ local firms, and showcased 300+ South African titles.
This expansion could bolster South Africa's creative economy by sustaining jobs and fostering new production partnerships. Local audiences may see more culturally specific narratives, like Indian family comedies and reality formats, reflecting diverse communities. Internationally, these titles could enhance global perceptions of South African storytelling. However, the reliance on streaming platforms may also shape local content priorities toward commercially viable genres, potentially influencing what stories get told.
