Preorders for the limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda 40th Anniversary console sold out quickly at major retailers. Resellers are now listing those preorders on eBay for up to $1,000, far above the $519.99 MSRP. Amazon and Walmart have not yet opened preorders, offering a potential last chance to buy at retail.
The limited-edition console carries a $519.99 price tag, only $20 above the standard Switch 2. Alongside the console, Nintendo released matching Zelda-themed accessories, including a Pro Controller and a carrying case with a screen protector, which are currently available for preorder at Best Buy.
The official launch is scheduled for October 29. While past Zelda-themed systems, such as the Tears of the Kingdom OLED, remained in stock for years, the current scarcity suggests this anniversary model may follow a different pattern, leaving Amazon and Walmart as the remaining retail avenues for fans.
This resale surge could significantly impact dedicated collectors and casual gamers alike, as the nearly doubled asking price creates a financial barrier to acquiring a celebratory item. If Amazon and Walmart fail to secure adequate inventory, the secondary market may continue to dictate availability, potentially discouraging fans from participating in future limited releases.
