Liars Announce New LP 'A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans' and Share Lead Single
Angus Andrew has revealed Liars' first album in five years, 'A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans,' due out March 5, 2027 via Mute. The title comes from an actual Michigan law and was inspired by Andrew's relocation to Kalamazoo, where he faced a toxic air crisis from a local factory. The lead track 'Ice Pick, Kalamazoo' arrives with a 3D-shot music video filmed at a local rally.
The upcoming record marks Andrew's first output since 2021's *The Apple Drop*. Its title stems from a real Michigan statute, reflecting his recent relocation to Kalamazoo. There, a local packaging plant's emissions triggered a severe air quality emergency, which Andrew says clouded his mental state as well as the physical surroundings. He frames the album as exploring how persistent environmental factors become normalized and overlooked.
Beyond the new LP, Andrew has launched the No Gold imprint and the Essential Tremors festival series. He will tour Europe and the UK in October, notably performing the entirety of 2006's *Drum's Not Dead* at Unsound to celebrate its twentieth anniversary.
The album's thematic focus on environmental pollution and psychological perception could resonate with audiences living near industrial zones.
