Delta and Hyatt launch reciprocal earning for loyalty members

Delta Air Lines and Hyatt have announced a new partnership that will let members earn both SkyMiles and World of Hyatt points on eligible flights and hotel stays. The collaboration comes just hours after American Airlines ended its own enhanced relationship with Hyatt. The deal will also include reciprocal elite status benefits for top-tier members.
The announcement follows American Airlines' decision to terminate its own Hyatt alliance just hours earlier. Under the new arrangement, SkyMiles members will accrue miles on eligible Hyatt stays, while World of Hyatt members will earn points on qualifying Delta fare classes.
Hyatt points currently hold a significantly higher valuation than those of major competitors like Marriott and Hilton. While specific elite status perks remain undisclosed, the partnership is expected to restore the popular "double-dipping" benefit that was previously scaled back with American.
This alliance could significantly influence how frequent travelers allocate their spending, potentially consolidating loyalty toward Delta and Hyatt. Competing airlines and hotel chains may feel pressure to establish similar partnerships to retain their own elite members. For consumers, the dual-earning structure might enhance the practical value of their travel budgets, though it could also intensify competition for top-tier status benefits.
