Apple unveils iPhone Duo foldable with 7.6-inch inner display and Apple Pencil support
Apple's first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner panel for split-view multitasking. It runs on the A20 Pro chip and Apple's C2 modem, with two batteries providing up to 44 hours of video on the outer screen. The device includes a titanium frame, a custom hinge, and support for the Apple Pencil on both displays.
The device's hinge assembly consists of more than a hundred individual parts, while the titanium casing helps maintain durability without excessive bulk. Two separate power cells deliver up to 44 hours of video playback on the smaller exterior panel, 31 hours on the larger interior one, and roughly 24 hours when both are used equally. Unlocking can be done via a side-mounted Touch ID sensor or an Apple Watch.
The rear camera array pairs a 48MP main lens with a 48MP ultra-wide, plus 2x optical zoom. Specialized software includes Smart Take for group shots, Duo Preview for rear-camera selfies, and Kid Cue to guide children. Duo FaceTime lets companions join calls using the outer screen. The 256GB model costs $1,999, with preorders opening October 16 and global availability on October 23.
The iPhone Duo could significantly influence how consumers approach mobile productivity, as the expansive inner screen may encourage more complex multitasking and creative workflows.
