Singapore Submits Anthony Chen's Family Drama for Oscar Consideration
Anthony Chen's 'We Are All Strangers' has been chosen as Singapore's official entry for the international feature category at the 99th Academy Awards. The film, set in contemporary Singapore, explores family relationships and unexpected life changes, and stars Yeo Yann Yann and Koh Jia Ler. It previously made history as the first Singaporean film to compete in the main program at the Berlin Film Festival.
The selection was made by a committee drawn from the Singapore Film Commission Advisory Committee, with the announcement issued by the Infocomm Media Development Authority. The cast includes frequent collaborators Yeo Yann Yann and Koh Jia Ler, alongside Andi Lim and Regene Lim.
Its submission follows a historic run at the Berlin Film Festival, where it became the first Singaporean production to enter the main competition in the event's 76-year history, contending against 21 other films for the Golden Bear.
This submission could elevate the profile of Singaporean cinema on the global stage, potentially opening doors for more local productions to secure international distribution and festival slots.
