Filmax Acquires Global Rights to Javier Giner’s First Feature ‘This Solitude’
Spanish sales company Filmax has picked up international distribution rights to Javier Giner’s directorial debut, a drama set in Bilbao. The film stars International Emmy winner Oriol Pla and Marina Salas, and will be presented to buyers at TIFF before its world premiere in San Sebastián’s New Directors section. Giner previously gained recognition for the Disney+ series ‘I, Addict,’ based on his own life.
The acquisition marks a significant step for Giner, whose prior success came from the streaming series based on his personal life. Filmax plans to showcase the Bilbao-set drama to international distributors during the Toronto festival.
Following its market debut, the film will hold its world premiere in the New Directors competition at San Sebastián. The project pairs Giner with acclaimed actor Oriol Pla, who previously won an International Emmy, alongside co-star Marina Salas.
This deal could elevate Giner's profile from television to the international film circuit. The combination of a high-profile sales agent and a prestigious festival premiere may increase the film's visibility among global audiences. For Spanish cinema, it signals continued confidence in personal, auteur-driven stories that translate across borders. Viewers may benefit from a broader distribution of a narrative rooted in intimate, regional settings.
