Italian distributor FilmClub Distribuzione has picked up Irene Dionisio's second narrative feature 'IDDA' following its world premiere in TIFF's Platform competition. The film stars Tecla Insolia and Romana Maggiora Vergano as childhood friends whose bond is tested during a journey through Sicily's Mount Etna. The deal was negotiated with Rai Cinema International Distribution, which handles international sales.
The film marks Dionisio's second narrative feature following her 2017 Venice debut "Pawn Street," with her background rooted in documentary filmmaking. She co-wrote the screenplay with Marco Borromei, known for "Small Body." The production team includes Giovanni Pompili alongside several other producers, with the project being presented to international buyers at the TIFF market.
The acquisition was finalized between Andrea Curti of FilmClub Distribuzione and Fulvio Firrito of Rai Cinema International Distribution, which manages worldwide sales. Dionisio expressed enthusiasm about the film's distribution journey, emphasizing its themes of friendship, change, and belonging. The story centers on two women in their thirties navigating a transformed relationship against the backdrop of Sicily's volcanic terrain.
