The therapy addresses the neurodegeneration phase rather than the initial blockage, potentially expanding treatment options for late-presenting patients.
The podcast also covered a Crohn's disease study showing that early use of tumor necrosis factor inhibitors—"top-down" therapy—improved outcomes up to five years, with no major downsides. Another segment examined oxygen targets for preterm infants born at 32–35 weeks, noting that many were not initially hypoxic but still required ongoing respiratory support. Finally, a maternal diet study found that consuming eggs and peanuts during pregnancy did not reduce infant allergy risk, though one-third of participants dropped out.

The Crohn's findings may encourage earlier aggressive treatment, potentially reducing long-term complications and healthcare costs. The allergy study, while negative, may temper expectations about prenatal dietary interventions, guiding future research toward other prevention strategies.
