Meta's Keychain-Sized Muse Charm Offers Instant AI Access
Meta unveiled a prototype called Muse Charm at Connect 2026, a small device with a screen and fingerprint sensor for quick access to its Muse AI assistant without opening a phone app. The device is still in development with unspecified specs. The success of the charm depends on whether Muse becomes a widely used agent.
The Charm's hardware specifications remain unconfirmed, with Meta still refining the internal design. Its practical value depends entirely on Muse's expanding ecosystem, which currently includes retail partners like Walmart and Best Buy, payment services Shop Pay and PayPal, and productivity tools such as Notion and GitHub. However, Amazon has blocked Muse from completing purchases, demonstrating how third-party cooperation determines the agent's real-world usefulness.
Muse's outbound calling feature is still limited, with reports indicating human contractors have been involved in handling some calls, suggesting the agent's capabilities remain a work in progress. The Charm's animated character, internally named Jolly, leverages Meta's Realtime Avatar technology to give the assistant a visible personality, adding a Tamagotchi-like dimension to everyday AI interaction.
The Muse Charm could normalize carrying a dedicated AI device, potentially shifting how people access digital assistance throughout their day. If successful, it may deepen reliance on a single company's ecosystem for routine tasks like shopping and scheduling.
