Tekever Lands $580M Series D as European Defense Tech Investment Soars

Tekever, a European autonomous systems company, has raised $580 million in the first close of a Series D round at a $6.4 billion valuation. The funding, led by UC Investments and Baillie Gifford, will support expansion of its AI-powered drone and surveillance systems. The company has logged over 50,000 operational flight hours in Ukraine since 2022.
Tekever's roots trace to Portugal in 2001, with the company now operating from Britain. Its selection for the British Army's CORVUS surveillance program, a contract potentially worth £400 million over a decade, signals how battlefield experience in Ukraine is translating into formal procurement agreements.
The round reflects a broader European trend, with peers like Helsing and Quantum Systems raising $1.8 billion and €1 billion respectively in July, while Cambridge Aerospace secured $300 million in August and Stark took in €500 million in June. Investors are increasingly backing defense technology as governments prioritize sovereign capabilities.
The surge of private capital into European defense technology could accelerate how quickly autonomous surveillance systems reach operational use, potentially expanding drone monitoring in conflict zones and border regions. Civilian populations may see greater aerial data collection in security contexts, raising questions about privacy and oversight. The push toward sovereign European capabilities could also reshape defense supply chains and create new technology jobs, though the long-term societal consequences of normalizing AI-driven military systems remain uncertain.
