Major solar, wind, and battery projects move forward

Low Carbon is planning a 500 MW solar farm with battery storage in Oxfordshire, England. Windlab’s Bungaban development in Queensland received environmental approval for up to 1.4 GW of wind plus a proposed 500 MW solar and battery installation. RWE approved a final investment decision for a 400 MW/1,100 MWh battery at Moerdijk in the Netherlands.
Low Carbon’s Oxfordshire proposal pairs 500 MW of solar generation with batteries, a configuration intended to make better use of its grid link and lessen exposure to weak wholesale power prices. The plan still needs planning consent and a connection before building can start.
In Queensland, Windlab’s Bungaban scheme has passed environmental review for as much as 1.4 GW of wind, alongside a proposed 500 MW solar-and-storage component. RWE’s Moerdijk battery in the Netherlands will use 208 containers, run near full power for about three hours, and help ease regional congestion while supporting the 795 MW OranjeWind offshore project.
These projects may affect households and businesses by adding renewable supply and storage that can shift power toward peak periods, potentially improving reliability and moderating price spikes. Communities near Oxfordshire, Queensland and Moerdijk could see construction activity and grid-related work, while workers may gain jobs. The Dutch battery may help reduce congestion and support offshore wind integration. Outcomes depend on permitting, financing, grid connections, and operation.
