Waterford Airport Plans Significant Terminal and Hangar Expansion

Waterford Airport has submitted planning applications for a substantial expansion of its terminal building and construction of a new hangar complex to boost operational capacity. The two-storey terminal extension would add approximately 3,672 square metres of space, featuring dedicated arrivals and departures areas, fixed base operator facilities for business aviation, retail outlets, and office space. The development reflects a broader vision for the airport beyond its ongoing runway redevelopment project, encompassing commercial passenger operations, business aviation, and aircraft maintenance services.

Waterford Airport's dual applications represent a coordinated strategy to diversify revenue beyond scheduled passenger routes. The fire station upgrade is particularly significant for airport operations, as enhanced emergency response capabilities directly determine which aircraft types an airport can legally accommodate. This infrastructure investment positions the facility to handle larger commercial planes once the runway extension concludes.

The proposed hangar precinct, comprising eight buildings totalling over 16,500 square metres, signals ambitions to establish an aerospace services hub.
